Los Ángeles, EUA.- Bajo un ambiente de fiesta y un intenso calor, el mexicano Carlos Cuadras y el nicaragüense Román González quedaron listos para verse las caras en el Forum de Inglewood, luego de superar el requisito de la báscula.
Decenas de aficionados se dieron cita en el estacionamiento del Forum, sitio al que llegaron los protagonistas de la función, con Cuadras, campeón supermosca del Consejo Mundial de Boxeo (CMB), listo para exponer su cetro ante el «Chocolatito».
El primero que subió a la báscula fue el centroamericano, quien apoyado en su mayoría por la afición marcó peso de 114.6 libras; tras el pesaje sacó una manta con la leyenda «la sangre de Cristo tiene poder» y envuelto en la bandera de su país.
Cuadras, también con apoyo de la gente, aunque con algunos gritos en contra y otros de «princesa, princesa», registró 114.8 libras, en condiciones para la pelea donde buscará defender su corona mundial de las 115 libras por séptima vez en su carrera.
Los gritos de «Nicaragua, Nicaragua» se escucharon en el lugar, pues aficionados al «Chocolatito» lanzaron gritos de apoyo en todo momento, pero el «Príncipe» no estuvo solo, y aunque fueron menos los que acudieron a brindarle su apoyo, se sintió cobijado rumbo a la pelea más importante de su carrera.
Entre los asistentes a la ceremonia estaba Pepe Sulaimán, en representación del CMB, quien presentó el Cinturón Ónix que estará en juego, y también acudió el panameño Roberto «Mano de piedra » Durán, quien no quiso dar un pronóstico de la pelea, pues será muy complica.
Para el pleito coestelar de la velada, el sinaloense Jesús Soto Karas registró 154.4 libras, mientras su rival, el japonés Yoshihiro Kamegai, lo hizo en 153.4 libras, listos para la contienda en peso superwelter.
